Emory MBA Sample Essay Tips - How to Write an Emory MBA Sample EssayWhen looking for an Emory MBA sample essay, there are several things you can do to ensure that you get the right one. First of all, it is best to look for a template that is similar to one that you are already familiar with. This means that if you have worked in a company that you are familiar with, you will already know what the template looks like. This will also help in avoiding any plagiarism issues.Secondly, you should always use the same style when you write your Emory MBA sample essay. There are a few ways to accomplish this and these methods are: Be as specific as possible or in the exact words used by the author; make it open ended so that the reader has the opportunity to write their own lines; write as a conversation or dialogue; or modify the words used slightly to make them seem more natural. If the reader does not find it natural, then they are less likely to buy into your essay. The third tip is to focu s on a certain topic so that you don't bog yourself down with writing about unrelated subjects. This will allow you to save more time and avoid the dreaded first draft.Once you find the perfect Emory MBA sample essay, all you need to do is write your essay. It doesn't matter what topic you choose as long as you keep all of these tips in mind.Writing a thesis statement is always good. It will show that you have a firm understanding of what the essay is all about. However, try to be as specific as possible.Another great tip to keep in mind is to not jump into writing your essay too fast. So, you may want to consider writing a different one each day. In fact, you could even be using this process as a time to eval uate your skills and learn new things. As you can see, there are a few things you should take into consideration when writing your Emory MBA sample essay. Do not be discouraged if you do not get it right the first time because most of the time, you will be well beyond the first draft by the time you finish. The rewards of working for yourself The decision to purchase a business of your own is not an easy task. There are many things to consider before the final decision is made. First of all, exactly what do you want to accomplish? To make millions of dollars, right? Or is it to have the freedom of being your own boss? Whatever the reason, you must be sure that it is something that you are ready to devote an exorbitant amount of time and energy into and that it is something that you really want. Otherwise, you might be stuck doing something that you hate. If you are ready to commit then you must ask yourself just how far will that commitment extend. How much of your own time, energy, and money are you willing to sacrifice? After the decision is made, the acquisition of a small business can be summed-up into nine steps, in which most will be elaborated upon later. "These are the nine steps to any business acquisition, regardless of its size or industry: 1. The search, locating a business available for sale. 2. Identifying alternative candidates. 3. Valuing the business. 4. Negotiating a price and terms. 5. Investigating the company. 6. Preparing the business plan. 7. Sourcing the financing. 8. Preparing the closing documents. 9. Managing the transition period." (Tuller, 10) Some considerations that cannot be avoided when purchasing a small business include: the question of needing a partner, the current economic factors, considering alternate locations, and developing a tax strategy. When debating whether or not a partner is needed or wanted, you need to know if you're going to need additional equity as well as sharing the risk of failure. For these reasons, a partnership seems to be a great idea, but there are also many cons that should be recognized. Having too many partners can alter the ease of decision-making, shared liability can cause obvious problems, and sharing profits means less for you. Added to this, getting out of a partnership can be very difficult. Evaluating the current economic factors simply means to know what you are getting into. Be sure to have some knowledge about the business itself and it's market. Know how to make and sell the product efficiently and in a service industry, be sure to know the current and correct way things are done-sometimes they are not one in the same. Location is key. "Location of the target can be a major determinate in both the financing of the deal and probable success in managing the business after closing. There's no sense spending time, effort, and money on a target located in the wrong place." (Tuller, 12) Along with this, the personal strife of having to travel a great distance to get to work can be very frustrating. So, be sure that the location of your potential business is profitable in every way. One the greatest minds of the 20th century, Albert Einstein, once said, "tax is the most difficult thing in the world to understand". Unfortunately, with the ever-changing laws, that problem gets worse every year. This means that you should have knowledge of the current tax laws. "'You will have a unique opportunity to make decisions on exactly how much money will change hands, and how I will allocated on the payment schedule."(Smorgenburg, 112) Maximizing profit for both you and the seller can only be done through proper knowledge of tax law, if you are not comfortable handling this alone, a consultant might not bad a bad idea. After all of the above is settled, the next thing to figure is the amount of initial income is required. Not only the income required to purchase the entity (which will be elaborated upon later), but also the amount of money that you need to survive for the years to

Genetic Engineering right or wrong essays
Genetic Engineering right or wrong essays Genetic Engineering. Right or Wrong? Genetic engineering has been one of the most controversial ethical issues since 1997; when Dolly the first successfully cloned sheep was announced. Dolly has redefined the meaning of dentical twin? not only does she look exactly like her mother she also has the same genetic make up. This experiment was not only impossible but unthinkable. Yet, Dr. Ian Wilmut revealed Dolly on February 23, 1997, at seven months old ( Travis 1). On the surface genetic engineering may appear to be the solution to all of society ills and the worlds problems. In all actuality it may have tremendous and unknown side effects. The issues that surround genetic engineering undoubtedly make it immoral and ethically wrong. Genetic Engineering as defined by Susan A. Hagedorn is: The manipulation of an organism genetic endowment by introducing or eliminating genes through modern molecular biology techniques. A broad definition of genetic engineering also includes selective breeding and other means of artificial selection ( enetic Engineering?1). After hearing of the reation?of Dolly Americans soon learned the harsh fact surrounding her creation. Dr. Wilmut success was accompanied by 276 failures. This success rate is no where near clinically acceptable. To start the developing of the eggs they were shocked with electric pulses; twenty nine of the 277 of these eggs began to divide. The eggs, at that point were implanted into adult female sheep; thirteen of which became pregnant, and only the one of 277 eggs were born - Dolly ( Wilmut 1). Long term prospects of mammal cloning remain in question. this is no where near clinically acceptable for experimentation on humans. In the months following the news of Dolly, President Clinton requested,a through review of the legal and ethical issues associated with the use of this technology... with re...

Global Leadership and Influence Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Global Leadership and Influence - Essay Example From the discussion it is clear thatà one method of improving global leadership effectiveness is to restructure the organisation to include more employee empowerment and autonomy in their individual job roles. This process is known as decentralisation where lower-level employees are free to express their opinions and innovations to assist in achieving business success. ââ¬Å"Decentralised companies result in empowerment, provide more procedural fairness to employees and provide faster decision-makingâ⬠.This study stresses that under Hofstedeââ¬â¢s model of cultural dimensions, there are collectivists and individualists who have radically different values. Collectivists value group loyalty and generally view themselves and the organisation as a family-oriented environment. Human resources leadership in the global environment must recognise this fact when dealing with workers from this type of cultural background and develop group focus and group rewards to fit these cultura l expectations. In a more individualistic society or when dealing with employees from this type of background, there must be a system in place that recognises individual accomplishment, such as through the annual performance appraisal and allow more room for self-expression in day-to-day business operations. A global leader cannot be effective without recognising these social and cultural norms and identify diversity initiatives to assist in building more competent staff. Also under Hofstedeââ¬â¢s model of cultural dimensions is an element of culture known as uncertainty avoidance, or the level to which an individual or group is willing to accept risk and the unknown. ââ¬Å"People in uncertainty accepting cultures are more tolerant of conflicting opinions and try to have fewer rulesâ⬠(Donnison, 2008, p.17). In opposite accord, people hailing from cultures with a more risk-averse mentality avoid unstructured decision-making and generally demand contingency plans before accepting risk. A global leadership regime must recognise these differences and develop an organisational structure to fit these attitudes and build human resources-backed policies to assist in promoting or accepting these varying values. A business culture with a high

Internet technology Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Internet technology - Essay Example In addition, news can be received almost within a minute of their happening; and lastly, it has resulted in unintended threats such as cyber attacks among others. A new collaborative environment has developed on the internet in the past few years. People who would otherwise have not known each other or possibly interacted only a few years ago can now share information over the internet over extremely long distances and in different time zones. This has led to the development of new ideas which without the internet would never have come to into existence. A consequence of this is the reduction of physical interaction between people which has now become more or less non-physical. This lack of physical interaction has led to most people living a very artificial life which they can twist into anything they would like to be, although in most cases, they can be considered lies. The internet has reduced the personal safety of its users because such people of child predators tend to establish initial contact with children online and lure them into very dangerous situations. Furthermore, verbal attacks and malicious messages can be delivered online with little or no censorship because the internet has no single governing entity. An additional result of there not being an entity to control the internet has been its contribution to the violation of copyright law through the illegal distribution of copyrighted material on the internet by individuals. This denies the creators of such material as movies, music, and books the right to earn royalties from their work and it has instead led to its use without their consent. The past recent years has seen the emergence of multibillion dollar social network companies based on friendships and photos. Social networking has become big business online with such major social networks as Facebook, Twitter, and My Space collecting huge revenues from advertising and the sale of their usersââ¬â¢ personal information to other commercial

Tim Oââ¬â¢Brien Essay Example for Free
Tim Oââ¬â¢Brien Essay Tim Oââ¬â¢Brien is a well-know war writer, probably the most famous war writer of our time but also a writer about relationships that disintegrate and how they do so.à His novels hinge on his own experiences in the Vietnam War or the time leading up to that experience.à But he is not a typical writer of war.à In Tim Oââ¬â¢Brienââ¬â¢s novels, Oââ¬â¢Brien blurs the lines between truth and portrayal of truth or fiction. In essence, he says that there is no such thing as truth. Truth depends on the perception of the person experiencing the episode and what goes on in the mind of this person. The truth fades and shifts or is illuminated further in the telling. Truth is slippery and ever-changing and completely subjective. He blurs these lines over and over again to show the reader the slippery slope of what we call truth.à Oââ¬â¢Brien, in some ways, can tell the same kinds of stories but with a different focus so they are completely new.à Overall, Oââ¬â¢Brien believes in the power of stories.à As Oââ¬â¢Brien says, Iââ¬â¢m a believer in the power of stories, whether theyââ¬â¢re true or embellished, and exaggerated, or utterly made up.à A good story has a power that transcends the question of factuality or actualityâ⬠(Bonn). à à à à à à à Oââ¬â¢Brienââ¬â¢s novel styles and themes begin right from the start of his career.à .à If I Die in the Combat Zone, Box Me Up and Ship Me Home was published in 1973.à It is a memoir which deals with Vietnam and the region around My Lai.à It was the first book that began Oââ¬â¢Brienââ¬â¢s genre of what is called ââ¬Å"creative nonfiction.à And then comes his first published novel, Northern Lights discusses two brothers.à One has returned from war wounded and the two brothers are uncomfortable with their own lives as well as their relationships with their father, who has died.à His themes of war and disintegration of relationships begin to be shown in this novel. He continues with these themes in Going After Cacciato published in 1978 and the Nuclear Age in 1985.à Going After Caccioto is the story of a soldier who decides to run away from the Vietnam War. In many ways, this novel is an earlier telling of a story from ââ¬Å"The Things They Carried.â⬠à The short story ââ¬Å"On the Rainy Riverâ⬠retells this novel, only with a different ending, which characterizes Oââ¬â¢Brienââ¬â¢s creative nonfiction.à In other words, the novel is another way that the story could have ended, not necessarily the way it did end.à Nuclear Age is a discussion of how we would live if confronted with the possibility of nuclear extinction. Then in 1990 he seems to hit a stride and critical acclaim with The Things They Carried.à This is a collection of short stories but also a novel in itself as it begins and ends with the same story.à The book begins with the quote, ââ¬Å"This is a work of fiction. Except for a few details regarding the authorââ¬â¢s own life, all the incidents, names, and characters are imaginaryâ⬠(Oââ¬â¢Brien).à Two pages later Oââ¬â¢Brien provides a dedication to ââ¬Å"the men of Alpha Company, and in particular to Jimmy Cross, Norman Bowker, Rat Kiley, Mitchell Sanders, Henry Dobbins, and Kiowa.â⬠(Oââ¬â¢Brien).à à These are the novelââ¬â¢s main characters. The reader is meant to question the blur of the lines between fact and fiction. The reader is meant to ask, ââ¬Å"Why Oââ¬â¢Brien would be thanking these men if this work is entirely fiction?â⬠à In this book, Tim Oââ¬â¢Brien manages this blur of truth in many other ways as well. One of thos e ways is that he creates a narrator who is modeled after himself. This narrator is a Harvard grad, a drafted Vietnam War vet, and goes by the name of Tim Oââ¬â¢Brien. The reader is encouraged to connect the narrator with the author as a way to question what is true. The narrator says, ââ¬Å"I want you to feel what I felt. I want you to know why story-truth is truer than happening-truthâ⬠(Oââ¬â¢Brien 203). When asked in an interview, ââ¬Å"What do you say when people ask, ââ¬Å"Are these stories true?â⬠Tim replies, Tim: ââ¬Å"I tell them to reread the book. Itââ¬â¢s kind of the point of the book: What is truth?â⬠à Tim explains more thoroughly when he talks in the same interview about getting to a deeper truth through fiction. à ââ¬Å"One of the chapters in ââ¬Å"The Things They Carriedâ⬠is about a character with my name going to the Canadian border. He meets an old man up there, almost crosses into Canada but doesnââ¬â¢t. I never literally did any of these things, but I thought about it. It was all happening in my dreams and in my head. And the one thing fiction can do is make it seem real. To let the reader participate in this kid making this journey and it feels like itââ¬â¢s really happening. You hope the readerââ¬â¢s asking the same questions that you were back then. You know, like ââ¬ËWhat would I do? Would I go to Canada? What do I think of war?ââ¬â¢ So even if the story never happened, literally, it happened in my head.â⬠If I were to tell you the literal truth about that summer, the truth would be that I played a lot of golf and worried a lot about the draftâ⬠(Curran). à à à à à à à In other words, what is the real meaning of truth?à Oââ¬â¢Brien plays with this concept over and over in his fiction.à The portrays the strangeness of how the mind works when dealing with memories and hypothetical situations. In the Lake of the Woods published in 1994 A spooked veteran who has secrets discovers that his wife has secrets too.à Both of these people ââ¬Å"escapeâ⬠to the inner recesses of their own minds in order to come to some kind of terms with their lives.à Oââ¬â¢Brien shows his mastery at blurring the lines between reality and fantasy here as well as the novel focuses on two of his favorite subjects, war and failing relationships.à As the couple struggles with the secrets in their relationship, Oââ¬â¢Brien uncovers that fact that truth is what we say it is, and what we say determines how and what we think.à He continues to blur the lines even further with an essay called The Vietnam in Me in 1994 in which he goes back to Vietnam twenty years later to reflect on the experiences of the Vietnam War.à This essay also explores the deterioration of a relationship for him.à He basically tries to reconcile what really happened in My Lai in his mind after all these years while faced with the gap opening up between he and Kate. His more recent work changes focus just a bit.à War becomes more secondary content.à In Tomcat in Love (1998) this humorous story or ââ¬Å"black comedyâ⬠as it is called in the Gadfly interview is told from the perspective of a sexist professor who attempts to deal with the disintegration of his relationship.à However, he tries to wreak revenge on his ex-wife by sabotaging her current relationship.à And in July, July (2002) ten friends reunite about 30 years after they graduate.à à They find that many of the same things haunt them now as haunted them then, only they are at totally different places in their lives.à This story is much like The Things they Carried in that the individual stories are tied together in the end. One of the characters has been through Vietnam, but more than anything this book is again about re-telling of the truth.à The ââ¬Å"truthsâ⬠that these characters had identified for themselves thirty years ago are different in many ways than their truths of today.à Does that make them any less true? When asked about the various truths of this novel, à BRC: Your books, and their characters, display a certain amount of moral ambiguityââ¬âa sense of this is true but that also is trueââ¬âor both could be true at the same time. Does this reflect your personal philosophy? TO: Yes. Truth evolves. Truth is fluid. Truth is a function of language. (If I were to say to you, ââ¬ËItââ¬â¢s now 10:00 A.M., I would be telling the ââ¬Ëtruthââ¬â¢ of Boston, Massachusetts, but not the ââ¬Ëtruthââ¬â¢ of Tokyo Japan). A lie, sometimes, can be truer than the truth, which is why fiction gets written. (Bookreporter). Ultimately Tim Oââ¬â¢Brien is a writer who deserves all the acclaim he gets as he has much to say not only about war and relationships but about the very essence of truth itself.à He is a storyteller in every sense of the word and believes in the power of stories, no matter what kind they are.à In an interview, he clearly demonstrates his philosophy about the power of storytelling and truth. Interviewer: What can stories do for us? Tim: Stories do a lot for us. They can help us heal. They can make us feel part of something bigger. We all tell stories to ourselvesââ¬âabout today and tomorrowââ¬âwe live our lives based on a story we tell ourselves. And weââ¬â¢re constantly adjusting itâ⬠¦hoping for a happy ending. (Curran) He describes good fiction as fiction that makes us look inside ourselves and Oââ¬â¢Brien is a master even when the ââ¬Å"contentâ⬠of the stories are not typical for most of us.à He can make us look at courage and truth and evaluate our own relationships all in the reading of his fiction. Pastoral care :: essays research papers
African American Pastoral Care by Edward P. Wimberly is a supplement to the book written in 1979 on Pastoral Care in the Black Church. Pastoral Care by African Americans shows pastoral counselors how to care for African Americans through a narrative methodology. By linking personal stories and the pastor's stories to the heart language of the Bible stories, counselors can use God's unfolding drama to bring healing and reconciliation to human lives. Further, demonstrating that caring can be shown through story telling and is widely used by the black church. The stories relayed are basic methods used in the past by black clergy, seminary students and lay people. Using the methodology of storytelling can build and improve the care given by our black pastors. Black Pastors share stories how caring for their members rely on seven needed narratives gained from stories and metaphors. They motivate their members to action by: helping them to see themselves in a new light, help them recognize new resources, enable them to channel behavior in constructive ways, sustain them in crisis, bring healing and reconciliation in relationships, heal scars of memories, and provide guidance when direction is needed. The African American Pastor tell stories that help people gain a glimpse of hope in the midst of suffering. Metaphors have been used for centuries to link Christians to positive directions in life. God from the very beginning uses identifying through biblical stories to heal, provide wholeness, and liberation for the sake of others. God provides four major functions to act in our lives: to unfold, link, thicken, and twist to arrive at the final outcome of our purpose in life. In examining the Pastoral Care shared through Godââ¬â¢s four major functions we begin to understand what is meant by unfold, God plans our lives one scene and one chapter at a time, and the purpose is not revealed until the complete story is complete. We then rely on Gods guidance to link the unfolding story to their lives. The scriptures help to relate the plot of the story to themselves. Black Pastors sharing their stories with members who see from the unfolding events and how they relate every day. Thickening refers to those events that intrude into Godââ¬â¢s unfolding story and seek to change the direction of that story from all involved. Suffering sometimes stakes its claim on our lives and hinders our growth and development.
